Johanna is a sound artist, composing with field recordings, self-built VLF antennas, and handmade instruments. Her work focuses on resonance, overtones, and the textures of sound shaped by improvisation and changing environments.

She creates installations and performances that respond to place, material, and chance, often using reuse and repetition

She is a member of the improvisational duo Taupe Etoile and Ensemble ex Materia.

Johanna Sandels is presented through the Cloud: Exit programme. Cloud: Exit is a part of Insomnia Festivals efforts to help develop and nurture new talents in the electronic music scene of northern Norway. The programme is made possible with support from SNN Samfunnsløftet and Talent Norway.
