Stine Jaivin Motland (NO)

2016

Stavanger-born, Berlin-based vocalist Stine Jaivin Motland (NO) works with experimental music, sound and audiovisual performance. Through a diversity of projects (In Labour, The Subjective Frequency Transducer, Native Instrument, Stine II), she explores and challenges the physical features of voice, the acoustics of her external/internal surroundings, and new performance strategies. With a special interest in the ambiguous and unrecognizable qualities of the voice, her work focuses on imitation and abstract storytelling through sound collages referencing a variety of genres and traditions in electronic music, sound poetry, folk, fauna and language.

At Insomnia she will be presenting Fake Synthetic Music, a driving imitation of melodic synthetic sequences and an outspoken tribute to pioneers of electronic music past and present – a deconstructed rave. A game of true or false, psychoacoustics and high-frequency exhaustion for voice, echo and spatial distribution.
