Shaping Space with Light
Light can make a room expand and contract, build tension or put people at ease, and tell a story without a single word. Visual artist and lighting designer Theresa Baumgartner works in exactly that space.
Based in Berlin, Baumgartner creates large-scale light installations that move between art, scenography and storytelling. She designed the lighting for Wayne McGregor’s _Deepstaria_, and she has been the stage and lighting designer for the live concerts of Hildur Guðnadóttir’s _Chernobyl_ score and the _Stranger Things_ score. She was also the first Visual Artist in Residence at La Biennale Musica.
In this one-hour masterclass, she opens up her process: how an idea becomes a space, and how technical choices turn into artistic ones.
No experience is needed. The session is designed for beginners and anyone curious about light as an artistic medium. It ends with a short hands-on part where you can try some of these ideas yourself.
The Lighting Design Masterclass is presented through the Cloud: Exit programme and TIMES project.
TIMES is supported financially through Creative Europe.
Cloud: Exit is a part of Insomnia Festivals efforts to help develop and nurture new talents in the electronic music scene of northern Norway. The programme is made possible with support from SNN Samfunnsløftet and Talent Norway.
